Are you running in the correct footwear? • Run 4 It
Anyone can sell running shoes, but it takes knowledge and experience to ensure that you are matched with a shoe which is appropriate for your foot, running gait (style) and the environment in which you run. At Run 4 It we work closely with Podiatrists who provide ongoing staff training and advice to ensure that from our range of over 1000 shoes in stock we match you with the right shoe for YOU.
Our shoe guide below provides an indication as to the different styles of running shoe, but is provided as a guide, not a replacement to proper fitting:
Neutral/Cushioned Shoes
For runners whose feet require no additional support through the gait cycle.
A Neutral runner’s foot-strike rolls inwards by the correct amount to lessen the shock of impact before continuing in an efficient line to toe push-off. Neutral shoes offer the efficient foot optimal rear and forefoot cushioning with maximum flexibility whilst retaining torsional support in the mid-foot.

Stability/Structured Cushioning Shoes
Designed to stabilise the foot and reduce over-pronation.
Some runners require a certain degree of rear and/or forefoot stability to prevent their foot rolling too far inwards (over-pronation) which can lead to a variety of overuse injuries. The stability shoe offers a combination of design features such as graded mid-sole densities to guide the foot through an efficient foot-strike.

Motion Control Shoes
For those runners whose feet need maximum support to prevent excessive over-pronation.
For the severe over-pronator in need of maximum levels of support whilst still providing cushioning and comfort. Runners with a very flat foot tend to have highly mobile and unsupportive feet which can roll excessively (over-pronation). Motion Control shoes offer a greater level of medial (inside) support, with a flatter sole to provide a broader base of stability whilst still cushioning the impact of the foot-strike.

Lightweight/Performance Shoes
For the runner looking for a highly responsive shoe for race day or faster training sessions.
Suitable for the runner with a neutral foot-strike or mild over-pronation, performance shoes offer varying degrees of cushioning and/or support in a lightweight design to optimise high paced training and racing.

Off-Road/Trail Shoes
For the multi-terrain runner looking for optimal traction and protection from the environment.
Off-road shoes offer varying degrees of cushioning and stability dependent upon their purpose. With more aggressive soles and uppers designed to withstand the demands of off-road terrain, these can be the perfect shoe for the runner who likes to get away from it all and spend time up in the hills. Some models also feature a water-proof Gore-Tex® membrane and compatibility with ankle gaiters to ensure the ultimate in off-road comfort.
