Who: Fi Russell and Vik Adam
Live: Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire
Fave run: Dumgoyne Hill, near Strathblane
Why:
It is the first hill that my husband and I ran together when we’d known each other only a few weeks. And it’s where we were married two years ago.
The hill’s summit is only 427m (1,402ft) high but there’s a steep climb to get there. The path is runnable most of the way, although at some steeper sections you may have to slow to a fast walk, and the view from the top is fabulous looking over the Campsie Fells and Loch Lomond. Bounding and jumping back down the hill a brilliant fun. There used to be an annual hill race on Dumgoyne and you can totally see why. Now my husband and I mark the anniversary of our wedding day each year with a run up and down the hill.
- Start: The layby opposite Glengoyne Distillery on the A81 Aberfoyle Road just past Strathblane.
- Finish: Back at the lay by.
- Distance: Two to three miles, with an ascent of (390m) 1,280ft.
- Time: We have managed up and down in 35 minutes, but leave up to an hour.
- Type of run: Out and back hill/trail run.
Route brief:
Cross the A81 and head left about 100m to the start of a private road up past several houses. The road winds through forestry, and then join the old drove road from Killearn to Blanefield. Where the roads meet, go through a metal gate and cross the open grassland. Cross a burn with a style and follow an obvious track up to the summit. The path is steep and heads through rocky outcrops.

The Durris Mast Loop - Durris Aberdeenshire
Start on the Slug Road at the bottom of the tarmac road up to the Durris Mast. Head out on the single track road up to the mast & turn right at the first forest track. carry along this for about 1.2 miles then just before the first forest track off to the left head up through the trees and round in a big circle (great views at the top) and back down the tarmac road from the mast. You never actually stand underneath the mast.
Its a fabulous run - steep and off road away from traffic.

Starting on Fountainhall road you can take any route you want to get to Hazlehead Park. My usual one is up Kings Gate for a wee challenge, running into Hazlehead Park past all the speedbumps, looping round to the right hand side and in behind the golf clubhouse. The loop usually takes me up to 15 minutes and you can go round as many times as you like. It is a really soft surface which is always good!:D

Dumgoyne is a great hill to run. The view at the top are just fantastic. And there is always Glengoyne Distillery waiting at the bottom to greet you if you fancy a wee dram to finish off the great experience.
