Have you been daydreaming of a new challenge? If the answer is yes then off-road running may well be for you… and it’s easier than you might think….!

If you have been road running for a while or have just started but feel as though you need a new challenge or a change of scenery then it’s time to have a go at running off-road. ‘Off-road running’ incorporates various forms and categories, from trail running to fell running, each providing different challenges and experiences. To start off with forestry commission and lowland tracks and trails provide an excellent introduction to the sport – dodging tree roots and puddles and skirting round and up and down small hills through woodland and fields – what better way to escape from a hectic days work in the office!

The first port of call is to invest in a pair of off-road shoes, for two reasons; 1) so you don't shorten the life span of you road shoes and 2) to provide you with the essential grip and support to have confidence when running through puddles and grassy slopes and help avoid injury. Off-road shoes come in many styles and each one is designed for specific uses and it is important to get the right one for you.
