Oonagh: At the moment I am focusing on cross country. I love getting muddy in my cross country races!! My mum doesn’t however and my goal is to be selected for a national competition as part of the East District team.
Emma: I am also doing cross country at the moment and this is the best part of the season. The cross country courses we compete on are always wet and muddy; just the way I like it!! I like how I feel when I run and I would like to get selected for the international competitions that I got selected for last year, namely the Schools International and the London Mini-Marathon. I am also hoping for selection for the Scottish team to compete at the Celtic Cup in January.
Did you want to buy this particular product as a replacement or was it recommended to you by staff/fellow runners/a product review elsewhere?
Neither of us have used cross country spikes before and the Brooks were recommended by staff.
What features of the product made you buy it?
It had the grip of a trail shoe and also had spikes which we can vary in length depending on the course. We like the fact that they are light weight but still tight fitting around your foot so it doesn’t feel as if they are going to work loose as a race progresses.
How has the product performed for you when training for an event or running a particular distance??
Don’t wear spikes when training.
Have you done any events when wearing/using the product? How did it feel in a competitive environment?
The Brooks have definitely helped with gripping the ground of the muddier courses for example Cumbernauld at the National Cross Country Relays Championships.
What are the pros of the product?
They are very comfortable and they give you the confidence to run over muddy sections or uneven slopes and you don’t feel as if you are going to fall.
What are the cons of the product?
We have worn them three times in races and there has been no problem with them at all.
Your overall thoughts on the product?
They are a very reliable pair of cross country spikes and we would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a pair of cross country spikes.
Would you buy the item again?
Yes, as they have been a very successful pair of running spikes so far.
