Event Season: Baxters Loch Ness Marathon Festival

The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running on 27th September 2015 is a notable fixture on the running calendar. There are great marathons around the world, many of them particularly marked by their settings, and the Loch Ness ranks right alongside them.

The centuries-old legend of the Loch Ness Monster is a story that continues to run. Along with the scenic beauty of the area, it has been responsible for attracting visitors to this fascinating part of Scotland for many years.

The opportunity to put such a memorable marathon on their record, one with such a unique story to tell, has proven too strong a pull for thousands of runners of all abilities.

The route begins in an atmospheric location and continues through breathtaking scenery, taking you along the south-eastern shores of Loch Ness, across the River Ness, and into the centre of Inverness, capital city of the Highlands. The 10K follows the same route for the last four miles, only missing out the first 22.

Guaranteed marathon entry has now closed however, charity, club and overseas places are available until 7th September.

If you don’t fancy the Marathon or 10K then there is always the Baxters River Ness 5K Fun Run. It is open to runners of all ages and abilities including wheelchair entrants. Whether you’re running for charity in fancy dress; with your entire family; in a group of mates or with your school or club – whatever your level of fitness, goals and aspirations, we guarantee you’ll finish this race with a smile on your face!

Finally for pre-school children aged 5 and under, there is the “Little Nessie” as a fun addition to the Baxters Festival of Running. This is a simple and short (approx 400 metres), circular route in the enclosed Bught Park that is safe for kids. It allows the children to walk, jog or run at their own pace and provides the perfect introduction to the sport.

You just have to witness the joy and pride on little faces to see how delighted they are to be involved! The medals and T-shirts go down rather well too! And who knows…perhaps we’ll see the early signs of some future running stars in the making!

Details of how to enter any of the events can be found on their website.
