Event Season: Linlithgow 10K

Linlithgow 10k

St Michael is kinde to strangers…

This is the town motto of Linlithgow (and yes, the ancient spelling ‘kinde’ is correct) . Runners from near and far can therefore expect a friendly welcome when they arrive for the annual Linlithgow 10k and Junior Fun Run events on Sunday 25th September 2016.

The Linlithgow 10k takes runners on a scenic route. Both races start in the town’s High Street and competitors can expect to pass some historic buildings en route, with the highlight being the views from the 10k across the loch to the majestic Linlithgow Palace, home to many kings and queens but perhaps best known as the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots. Both the 10k and Junior Fun Run finish in an area known as The Peel (the origin of the name is French and available on request from the organisers) at the foot of the palace.

Runners can expect to follow in part the footsteps of notables such as Robert the Bruce, Bonnie Prince Charlie (and his nemesis, the Duke of Cumberland), King Charles I and II and Oliver Cromwell although it has to be admitted there is no historical reference to them running full the 10k route itself. Some of these guys however were bad for the town – runners, please don’t be like that.

Runners can expect to see many colourful floral displays as they pass through the town. The town of Linlithgow is a regular entrant to the UK’s Britain in Bloom competition and has won several accolades including national awards in this competition.
