Underfoot Feel
The Altra Olympus 5 features a thick midsole of EGO MAX cushioning. While it's not overly soft, it delivers great shock absorption on hard packed surfaces. The Balanced Cushioning should improve stability on uneven terrain too.
With a Vibram Megagrip outsole, you can expect exceptional levels of grip on wet and dry surfaces. This highly durable rubber is famed for being one of the best performing outsoles on off-road terrain.
Upper Fit
Altra running shoes feature FootShape toe boxes. This means they're designed to fit the natural shape of your feet and typically fit wider than standard running shoe uppers.
The Altra Olympus 5 trail running shoes have an Original FootShape toe box. This is Altra's widest and roomiest upper. Perfect for accommodating foot swelling in ultra distance events.
With a premium heel collar, you should feel locked into place.
Ideal Run Type
The Altra Men's Olympus 5 trail running shoes offer great cushioning and excellent grip on a wide variety of surfaces. Although, we wouldn't recommend using them for steep technical trails.
As a result of the midsole qualities, we recommend using them for trail runs that cover lots of hard-packed surfaces. This also means they're suitable for sections of road running and long distance events.
If you're worried about slipping on wet rocks, the Vibram Megagrip outsole is one of best options to help you feel more confident.
Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone's feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb's width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
