Advice for Trail Runners: We're huge fans of the HOKA Women's Challenger ATR 7 Trail Running Shoes because they're so versatile. By that, we mean you can run over a wide mixture of surfaces and terrain in them. The Meteor/Night Sky colourway should still look great with some mud on it.

Underfoot Feel

Expect to feel lots of cushioning under your feet in the HOKA Challenger ATR 7 Trail Running Shoes. That's because the midsole features a thick bed of soft and protective foam. You should also feel less stress on your calf muscles. This is down to the midsole geometry. HOKA's signature Meta-Rocker technology rolls your feet forward and reduces the work done by the lower leg area.

The outsole of the HOKA Challenger ATR 7 is inspired by gravel tyres. To explain further, there's tightly spaced lugs in the centre; and larger, more aggressive lugs at the perimeter. This means you should feel confident on hard packed ground, such as flat wet rock, and looser terrain, such as dirt trails. For clarity, the lugs are 4 mm deep.

Upper Fit

Weighing only 207 grams, the HOKA Challenger ATR 7 Trail Running Shoes are very light. The simplified mesh upper plays a big part in keeping the weight down. As a result, you should enjoy great levels of breathability and fabric that dries quickly when it gets wet. The supportive upper keeps your feet contained on uneven terrain.

Ideal Run Type

The HOKA Women's Challenger ATR 7 Trail Running Shoes perform on road and a wide range of trail surfaces. That's because they're highly cushioned and feature a grippy outsole. We know trail runners like to mix up their terrain and discover new places. We highly recommend these if that's you.

For runners seeking great protection for long distance trail runs, the HOKA Challenger ATR 7 is a logical choice. This is not only down to the protective cushioning. The midsole also features a Meta-Rocker. For clarity, the curved midsole rolls your feet forward and stops the calf muscles working as hard.

The wheel inspired geometry also reduces the impact of running downhill. Downhill running is normally the most impactful part of a run, as we're not used to the high levels of eccentric loading.

If you're looking for even more grip on technical terrain, we recommend the HOKA Speedgoat. Its Vibram rubber outsole is exceptionally grippy.

Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone's feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.

Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb's width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).

This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
