Altra Running Shoes

The Altra story began in 2009, born from a desire to create running shoes that promote natural, low impact, and efficient movement. Originating from a ‘toaster oven’ experiment in a Utah running store, the brand developed its core innovations: Balanced Cushioning™ (Zero Drop™) to encourage natural positioning and reduce impact, and the FootShape™ toe box that allows your toes to spread out naturally. 

In recent years, Altra has expanded beyond its zero-drop roots, introducing low-drop options while staying true to the brand’s signature roomy toe box and natural fit.

The Altra range at Run4It includes road and trail running shoes, built around two distinct FootShape™ fits: Original FootShape™ Fit (the roomiest option) and Standard FootShape™ Fit (a more balanced fit). 

The Altra Experience family cements the brand’s move into 4mm heel-to-toe drop, rocker geometry running shoes. Designed for everyday miles, these shoes deliver a lightweight, responsive ride across a wide range of paces and distances. Road runners can choose the neutral Experience Flow or the more stable Experience Flow ST, while trail runners should look to the Experience Wild for responsive off-road performance.

In our experience, Altra is an excellent choice for runners with Morton’s Neuroma or bunion. The FootShape™ toe box allows toes to spread naturally, helping reduce the pressure across the forefoot. While all Altra shoes feature this design, the Original FootShape™ offers the most space. This is likely to be the optimal choice if you want maximum room.
