Who can forget Eliud Kipchoge approaching the finish line of his second attempt at breaking the 2 hour barrier for the marathon distance in Vienna in 2019? He’d come so close on his previous attempt and Nike had subsequently revisited the drawing board, developing a shoe which gave him the very best chance of achieving this previously unimaginable feat. With the fantastic Vaporfly as the admittedly high starting point, Nike had a great base to work from in developing their next carbon-plated super shoe! They knew ZoomX midsole foam and its interaction with a carbon plate was key so understandably included both in their new design. The addition of dual Zoom Air units in the forefoot of the shoe increased the responsive and highly propulsive running experience. To maximise running economy, radical new geometry was introduced, absolutely vital when covering long distances at pace. The result was the Alphafly. History was made in the Alphafly. The latest version of this incredible shoe, the Air Zoom Alphafly Next% 2, utilises an updated AtomKnit V2 upper with zonal support and a number of additional features designed to provide a secure, lightweight and comfortable fit, removing all possible distractions on race day! Carbon plates and super foams in performance running shoes are here to stay but will continue to evolve. To date the Alphafly has arguably provided the most advanced and unique running experience in this sector of the market. In its short lifespan, it has already cemented a position among the most-celebrated super shoes. You really do have to try a pair!
