ASICS was founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka who setout to nurture the youth through sports and contribute to the development of society in post-war Japan.
ASICS is an acronym for the Latin phrase 'Anima Sana In Corpore Sano' meaning 'A Sound Mind in a Sound Body' and it's this founding philosophy and belief in the uplifting power of exercise, along with the principle of 'Kaizen' meaning continuous improvement and focus on people and science as the path to optimum performance – that underpin the company's culture, research and product development.
