Known as the workhorse with wings, the Nike Pegasus has been trusted by runners for decades. The first Nike Pegasus was released in 1983. 2023 brings about the 40th anniversary of the legendary Nike running shoe. While it’s fair to say it’s changed considerably over these years, the Pegasus has always been designed to deliver responsive cushioning for daily miles. Whether you're tackling some hill sprints, meeting up with your local run club or heading out on a long Sunday marathon training run, the Pegasus is there to support you. Nike’s brief for the new Air Zoom Pegasus 40 was simple: create a more comfortable, breathable and forgiving upper, improve the midfoot fit to make it more accommodating for a greater range of foot shapes, and adjust the form so that runners can personalise the fit. What does this mean from a tech perspective? The mid-foot band has been redesigned to provide a more secure, yet forgiving fit. It’s coupled with a new single layer mesh that improves air flow and breathability. Keeping you cooler in the heat. At the same time, comfort is improved by more foam around the heel collar. Finally, alterations to the internal linings and padding throughout the upper creates an incredibly smooth fit. The Air Zoom Pegasus 40 midsole is the same as the previous version. Still made with lightweight React foam and two Zoom Air Units - one at the heel and one at the forefoot. This delivers a protective, yet responsive underfoot feel. Perfect for runners looking for running shoes that perform over a range of paces. At Run4It, we position the Nike Pegasus in The Connected Experience category as it offers maximum versatility. If you’re looking for a daily mileage Nike running shoe with a softer and bouncier underfoot experience, we recommend the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run 3. The PEBAX based midsole feels incredibly cushioned to run in. Alternatively, the Nike Zoom Fly 5 combines ZoomX scrap foam and a full-length carbon fibre plate for extra propulsion across a range of speeds.
