The Nike React Infinity Run is now called the Nike Infinity RN 4. The fourth edition of these popular Nike running shoes have some great updates. If you’re looking for the headline information, the Nike React Infinity RN 4 features an updated midsole and upper. As a result, they should feel more cushioned and supportive than before. Nike’s simple message of ‘supportive cushioning built for a smooth run’ encapsulates the vision for these running shoes. For those interested in the technical upgrades, the Nike Infinity RN 4 now features ReactX foam. This returns 13% more energy than the previous React foam, which still features in models such as the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus. Producing ReactX foam also reduces the carbon footprint of the midsole by at least 43% in comparison to React foam. In summary, the updated midsole foam should feel more cushioned and bouncier than before. As a result of the midsole properties, we position the Nike React Infinity RN 4 in our Float Experience category. While you may not feel like you’re actually floating, the cushioning should feel comfortable at slower to steady paces. They also feature a rocker-shaped midsole. In our experience, this geometry tends to lower the stress on calf muscles. That’s because the feet roll forward and less force is required from the calf muscles for push-off. This rocker-geometry is coupled with a high stack and wide based midsole. As a result, the protective midsole should also feel inherently stable. We class the Nike Infinity RN 4 as stability running shoes. In addition to the wide based midsole, the cushioning delivers a holistic style of support. To explain further, specific areas of cushioning rise up around the sides of your feet. This method of support tends to work for runners who are prone to knee problems as a result of greater ranges of internal rotation. It’s also likely to suit runners whose form worsens over the course of a run - particularly long distance ones. When it comes to the Infinity RN 4 upper, Nike’s statement ‘Give your feet a hug’ says it all. The updated Flyknit upper is all about support and comfort. With an internal Flyknit fit band around the midfoot, you should feel supported around your arch area. Padding around the heel collar delivers a secure feel that should minimise the chances of rubbing. Finally, the toe area includes a water-repellent liner. Should you get caught in a rain shower, this will help keep your toes dry.
