Advice for Road Runners: The HOKA Men's Clifton 9 GTX running shoes are completely waterproof. If you love the HOKA Clifton, but want to keep your feet dry in wet weather, these are the perfect choice. We're big fans of the Dazzling Blue/Evening Sky colourway, as they won't show the dirt. 

Underfoot Feel

The HOKA Clifton 9 GTX features the same CMEVA midsole as the standard HOKA Clifton. If you've not run in Clifton 9 running shoes before, this midsole feels protective and padded underfoot. The foam also feels bouncy, which compliments the Meta-Rocker midsole shape. To explain further, the curved midsole rolls your feet forward and lowers the work done by the calf muscles.

You will experience more grip in the GTX edition of the Clifton 9 over the standard version. That's because the outsole features Durabrasion rubber with weather-ready traction pods. This improves grip on wet and slippery road surfaces.

Upper Fit

The HOKA Clifton 9 GTX upper features GORE-TEX Invisible Fit, so it fits as similar to the standard edition as possible. While some waterproof uppers are heavy and very noticeable, the GORE-TEX Invisible Fit is the opposite. For the avoidance of doubt, the upper is completely waterproof. A closed mesh construction adds further protection. 

360-reflectivity makes the upper more visible to others in low-light conditions.

As HOKA only converts men's US to UK sizes by half a size, we recommend choosing your normal US running shoe size.

Ideal Run Conditions

The HOKA Men's Clifton 9 GTX are perfect for wet weather road runs. Keeping your feet dry and warm in cold and wet weather can be the difference between a good run and bad one. It might also be the difference as to whether you get out the door or not in the first place. There's a sense of comfort in knowing you have the right kit for the challenge ahead. 

Wet weather often makes the ground more slippery. If you're looking for grippier road running shoes, the HOKA Clifton 9 GTX is the answer. 

We also think the Clifton 9 GTX are excellent walking shoes. There's nothing worse than wet feet on a long walk or commute to work. 

Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone's feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.

Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb's width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).

This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
