Advice for Road Runners: The iconic Women's Mizuno Waver Rider 27 in the Ultramarine/White/Aquarius has been updated with an altered upper. If you're a fan of the previous Wave Rider, you'll be pleased to know the midsole remains the same.
The Mizuno Wave Rider 27 features a Mizuno Enerzy midsole. This energetic midsole foam also has a PEBAX Wave Plate inserted. The result? You'll feel like you have a lot of protection and propulsion under your feet. By this, we mean the Wave Rider 27 won't feel overly soft. Instead, it will feel as if the midsole helps move you forward. Perfect for slower to steady paced runs.
While the Mizuno Wave Rider 27 are neutral running shoes, the midsole features raised lateral and medial side walls. Simply meaning that your feet sit into the midsole and feel supported.
As mentioned, the main updates to the Women's Mizuno Wave Rider 27 are in the upper. An updated heel counter design drastically improves the fit around the ankle area. Named Adapted Heel Counter, it should feel like it locks your ankle in securely. Similarly, the gusset tongue ensures great midfoot hold.
Even though the Wave Rider 27 is not categorised as a wide-fitting running shoe, it feels accommodating in the toe box. In our experience, we find it works well for runners with broader feet. Additionally, the 3D PU Print overlays increase support and reduce the likelihood of friction.
We recommend using the Mizuno Wave Rider 27 for slower to steady paced runs. That's because the midsole feels protective and energetic. If you want to take it easy, the midsole will take the impact out of landing. However, when you want to inject a bit of pace into your run, the PEBAX plate comes alive and increases energy return.
This also means you can run in the Mizuno Wave Rider 27 on your short runs and your long ones. We love how versatile these running shoes are.
Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone's feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb's width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
