Find Out More

The Mizuno Wave Rider is an icon of the running world. The Wave part of the title represents Mizuno’s signature technology: Wave Plate. This structure serves multiple purposes and is adjusted across various Mizuno models to best suit a specific run type. In the Wave Rider, the Wave Plate enhances energy return, adds stability to the midsole and improves forward momentum. At Run4It, we’ve seen the evolution of Wave Plate technology over many years. The latest version in the Mizuno Wave Rider 27 is made from PEBAX Renew (this is the same as the Wave Rider 26). This responsive material is made from caster oil for an eco-friendlier footprint. To explain further, caster beans are crushed into caster oil and this oil is then turned into polymer. It reduces Mizuno’s carbon footprint. It doesn’t stop there when it comes to sustainability. If you’re searching for sustainably made running shoes, the Mizuno Wave Rider 27 is a great option. With over 90% of the upper body textile, upper body lining, and sockliner lining being made from recycled materials, the Wave Rider is certainly meeting some targets. We know Mizuno are committed to producing running shoes in the most environmentally conscious way possible. The Mizuno Wave Rider 27 is all about the performance too. The PEBAX Wave Plate is coupled with a Mizuno Enerzy midsole to deliver exceptional comfort and energy return. Mizuno Enerzy cushioning is undoubtedly one of Mizuno’s most significant progressions in cushioning technology. The lightweight material is highly protective and very bouncy. This means the Mizuno Wave Rider 27 cushioning feels protective for long distance runs and responsive for steadier paced efforts. A true all-rounder and one of the main reasons we’re such big fans of these Mizuno running shoes. The most significant update to the 27th edition of the Mizuno Wave Rider is the Adapted Heel Counter fit. The altered ankle shape drastically improves the fit around the calcaneus (heel bone). The calcaneus transfers most of the body weight from the lower limb to the ground, so it’s important the fit is right. While the Wave Rider 27 is not classified as a wide-fitting running shoe, it’s generally very accommodating in the forefoot area. In our experience, the Wave Rider works well for runners who prefer some extra space for their toes to splay. If you’re looking for Mizuno stability running shoes, we recommend checking out the popular Mizuno Wave Inspire. It feels very similar to the Wave Rider 27, but the Wave Plate has more support built into it. This provides extra stability for excess pronation.
