The GEL-Nimbus 23 Tokyo is packed with cushioning technology to make running further feel more comfortable. ASICS have adjusted the composition of the GEL to create a better step-in feel and softer underfoot feeling. The new GEL structure at the heel helps runners compress a specific area of the sole at foot strike, enhancing shock absorption on impact.
The section of foam above the GEL, in the heel area, is FLYTEFOAM. This lightweight foam combines with the GEL to enhance the soft underfoot cushioning and will help take the stress out of the legs. The bottom section of the midsole is made up from FLYTEFOAM Propel. This is a higher energy returning material which creates a springy and energetic underfoot feel that will help push you forward on faster runs.
The upper has been designed with three new materials. At least 20% of the primary material is made with recycled fibres. Softer than the previous model, it's designed to wrap the foot like a second skin. Reinforcements are woven into the upper itself to provide stability without the need for traditional stitched or welded overlays. The eyelet shape moves independently at each eyelet, which allows the upper to move appropriately with the runner's foot. This shoe is a great option if you’re unsure whether you need support as it features a new stretch midfoot panel that hugs the foot and centres it on the shoe's platform, providing additional stability for a neutral shoe.
The GEL-Nimbus 23 Tokyo is perfect for runners building up their distance and running at slower to steadier paces and experienced runners looking for a mileage shoe to provide more protection for recovery runs when legs are tired. Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone's feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles. Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb's width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes). This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
